Health Literacy Trainings for Healthcare Professionals: HLSD trains healthcare professionals on the effects of low health literacy and how to better communicate with patients with low health literacy.

Health Literacy Curriculum: HLSD developed a customized health literacy curriculum for adult literacy programs, community and health organizations.  This curriculum includes lessons to teach adults with low health literacy to how access healthcare, how to communicate with doctors, and how to read and understand medication and treatment plans.

Community Empowerment Programs: Health literacy skills empower individuals to find and understand health information, and ask their doctor questions.  HLSD is developing community engagement programs to teach individuals the skills needed to communicate with doctors and enable them to gain control over their own health. HLSD is working with Senior Community Centers to develop Decoding the Doc, a Mental Health Literacy Community Engagement Program for Seniors.
