Suicide Prevention Council Subcommittees

Help Line Collaborative. In partnership with OptumHealth, a Help Line Collaborative was formed in 2011 on behalf of the SPC to coordinate efforts of local help lines.  The next meeting of the Help Line Collaborative is July 15, 2013 at 1:00pm at the NEW CHIP offices (5095 Murphy Canyon Drive. Training & Education Subcommittee.The SPC Training & Education Subcommittee meets as needed related to the development and/or implementation of local suicide prevention trainings and educational resources. The next meeting of the Training & Education Subcommittee is being rescheduled. To join or RSVP for meetings of the SPC Training & Education Subcommittee, contact Elizabeth Vaughan at evaughan@sdchip.org or call 858-609-7971 

Media Subcommittee. The SPC Media Subcommittee was formed to impact responsible reporting on suicide in the media.  An educational forum for the media was planned in partnership with the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists, and was held on September 13, 2012 at the San Diego County Office of Education. The subcommittee next meeting is TBD. Currently collaborating on the 'Picture This Event' being held on October 9. 2013 for media and stakeholders to get more information or to join the SPC Media Subcommittee, contact Yeni L. Schools Collaborative (K-12). The SPC School Collaborative has been formed to provide resources and education to San Diego County schools interested in implementing a suicide prevention program. The School Collaborative meetings are bi-monthly at CHIP. Currently next meeting is TBD, to participate in the Schools Collaborative, contact Yeni L. Palomino at ypalomino@sdchip.org.

Higher Education Collaborative. The SPC Higher Education Subcommittee has been formed to help the Colleges and Universities that currently have CalMHSA funding and provide resources, a forum to collaborate on implementing suicide prevention programs, education and awareness. The Higher Education Committee conference call meetings are monthly on the third Tuesday of the month from 9am-10am. Next meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2013 from 9-10am via conference call. Faith Organization Outreach The SPC Faith Organization Outreach group has ben formed to provide resources and education to San Diego County Faith Organizations interested in suicide prevention and bringing additional awareness. Currently planning a workshop with a youth resource focus for May 2013. Youth Forum Event hosted by Faith Organizing Outreach on May 31, 2013  To participate, RSVP or get meeting information for the Faith Organization Outreach, contact Elizabeth Vaughan at evaughan@sdchip.org or call 858-609-7971.

Assessment & Evaluation.The SPC Assessment & Evaluation Committee has ben formed to track the progress of the SPC efforts and plans. The Assessment & Evaluation Subcommittee meets as needed related to the Assessment and Evaluation of the local SPC efforts.   • Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Trainings for Suicide Prevention are now available! QPR is like CPR - an emergency mental health intervention. People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.  Click here for more information, or to schedule a training.
